Arts organizations require skilled managers and administrators who not only have a passion for the arts but who also have the skills and knowledge to run a business.

Developed in partnership with The Stratford Festival, Orchestra London, The Grand Theatre, and Museum London, Western’s innovative Diploma in Arts Management offers an exciting combination of classroom education and hands-on experience that will prepare university graduates for careers in the growing field of arts management.

Designed for

Graduates with a passion for the arts and enjoy the idea of working for galleries, symphony orchestras, festivals, or theatres. Those looking to become arts managers and administrators that coordinate the business and administrative side of arts organizations.

Program Details

 Duration: One-year, full-time 

  Location: Downtown campus

  Cost: $6800 + Western ancillary fees       Financial Aid: OSAP eligible

  Program: 10 required courses and a practicum

Arts Management is a one-year, full-time program, combining eight months of learning in-class and four months in a practicum placement.

What you will learn

The 10 required courses are taught and developed by industry professionals to connect theory to practice.  You will develop a professional network, unique skills, and a portfolio of projects used throughout your career. 

What you will learn

  • Develop a comprehensive overview of arts organizations, current trends and realities of the arts industry
  • Have a concrete understanding of fundraising, development, strategic planning, communications, financial and marketing strategies/responsibilities as they pertain to the arts
  • Understand how to regulate, develop and enforce legislative and board policies Have a full understanding of the foundations of effective leadership and financial management
  • Plan and host a major fundraising event
  • Learn methods of community engagement, volunteer management and how they apply to arts organizations

Hands-on experience

Through the practicum, you will gain valuable hands-on experience, a strong network of industry contacts, and an edge in the job search process. It is the culmination of your work in the classroom and the bridge to a great career in your target industry
